What will happen to the information I give you?

The data collected by this experiment will potentially be of enormous benefit to scientific research. Your responses - with any personally identifying details such as your email address removed – will be passed to our academic partners at the University of Liverpool and other associated academic researchers.

We will only share data with scientists when we are satisfied that:

  • No personal details will ever be made public.
  • The data will be used to advance knowledge, and any findings will be made publicly available, for example in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • The data will be used in way that conforms to the ethical standards agreed by the University of Liverpool experimental ethics committee.
  • The data will not be used for commercial purposes.

We will never pass your data on to market research companies, or use it within the BBC for any purpose other than administering the experiment.

The experiment was designed in collaboration with the University of Liverpool. The website was built by the digital production agency, Joi Polloi, who have been contracted by the BBC to collect and store the data from this test on behalf of the BBC.
